Five-year analysis of hypersensitivity to oxaliplatin (OXP): Determination of incidence and identification of risk factors

2008
2539 Background: Hypersensitivity is a well-known complication of the platinum agents cisplatin and carboplatin. Although hypersensitivity to OXP has been increasingly recognized, the incidence reported in the literature has varied significantly. Additionally, risk factors for developing these reactions specifically to OXP have never been investigated. Here we report the incidence of hypersensitivity to OXP over a 5-year period at North Shore University Hospital, and investigate patient and disease characteristics associated with their occurrence. Methods: Information on all patients treated with OXP between September 2002 and August 2007 was retrospectively reviewed. Data from patients who experienced hypersensitivity was further analyzed and compared to those who did not have reactions. Potential risk factors investigated included sex, diagnosis, disease stage, presence of pre-existing allergies, chemotherapy received, and use of OXP in front-line vs. higher therapy. Chi-square testing was used to analy...
