Über Suchmaschinen, Verbünde und die Integration von Informationsangeboten Teil I: KOBV-Suchmaschine und Math-Net

The development of a library oriented search engine is the technical and organizational ,,heart of the Berlin and Brandenburg Virtual Catalogue (KOBV). This innovation enables the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and their libraries to pursue the objective to renew and re-organize their library systems. For all partners within the KOBV project the development of the search engine is a means to an end in order to link in particular the heterogeneous world of the various integrated library systems in use. Internet and the World-Wide-Web are confronting the libraries with new forms of media, methods and tasks mainly from science and scientific societies. The challenge lies in integrating the new electronic information. The keyword for that process is digital or virtual library. The article also touches on the discussion about that actual development.
