Copper Conducting Surface: A Zero Impedance Surface

2021
In this paper, the reflection of the electromagnetic wave at the surface of a conductive medium is analyzed theoretically in order to characterize the behavior of electric and magnetic field just inside and outside of the conducting medium. A case study is considered assuming copper as the conducting medium. From the study, indeed negligible difference between reflection coefficients of the magnetic and electric field is found. Again characteristic delay length (skin depth) for the copper conducting material is measured at an operating frequency 1 MHz, which is in demand for real practical application like printed circuit board.
