Aerodynamic stability analysis of bridge

2015
Development of modern materials and construction techniques allow construction of extremely long-span bridges as well as skyscrapers. These structures exhibit remarkable flexibility, low damping, and lightweight exhibit strong sensitivity to a variety of wind-induced vibrations. Among them, wind-induced flutter instability is the most dangerous one in which the bridge oscillates in a divergent and collapse manner at certain wind velocity. The objective of flutter analysis is to predict the lowest critical flutter wind velocity as well as the corresponding flutter frequency. The main context of the book can be point out by interrelated parts: (a) a set of simplified approximated methods in bimodal flutter framework are presented; (b) engineering formulas for the aeroelastic stability analysis of long-span bridges at the preliminary bridge design stage; (c) full-mode and multi-mode method for analyzing coupled flutter of long-span bridges at the global bridge design stage.
