Effects of Transmitting Antenna Elevation on Bistatic Polarization Radar System Ability Detecting Rotatory Spheroidal Raindrops

2013
In order to improve the detecting accuracy of bistatic polarization radar, bistatic radar equations for spheroid raindrop groups have been deduced based on electromagnetic scattering theory.By supposing all the particle rotation axis are vertical upward, these equations are used to discuss the effect of the elevation of transmitting antenna and the position of raindrops on the detection ability for bistatic polarization radar system. The results show that the areas of high and low values in the distribution of geometric factor and the ratio of echo power at horizontal and vertical polarization are all reduced as the elevation lifted. The value of scattering cross-section factor increases at horizontal polarization but decrease at vertical polarization as the elevation lifted.
