A Starr-Edwards Model 6120 Mechanical Prosthesis in the Mitral Valve Position for 38 Years

2006
c l e he Starr-Edwards caged-ball prostheis for cardiac valve replacement was rst successfully used in the mitral poition in September 1960. Because of welling of the silicone rubber poppet ue to lipid infiltration, the processing f the silicone rubber was altered in 965 in hopes of preventing poppet deeneration. We describe findings in a oman who had mitral valve replaceent in 1965 utilizing the revised silione rubber poppet; the prosthesis reained in place for 38 years.
