A precipitation study of two rapidly solidified AlFe alloys

1994
Abstract A kinetic study of decomposition in two rapidly quenched supersaturated AlFe alloys was performed using electrical resistivity measurements taken under isothermal conditions. The mechanism of transformation and the activation energy were derived from the classical Johnson-Mehl-Avrami treatment and the influence of the initial microstructural configuration is discussed. A tentative fit of the initial anomalous resistivity behaviour is made on the basis of a model which takes into account the formation of coherent preprecipitates in the first decomposition stages.
