Epidemiology of Osteoporosis

During the past ten years or so, osteoporosis and its accompanying fractures have been recognised as a major public health problem affecting many countries. In some regions, the problem is epidemic in proportions or is predicted to become so within the next few decades. The consequences, in terms of both cost and the overall impact on the health of the ageing population, are dramatic.
