Nuclear Receptors in Host-Directed Therapies against Tuberculosis

2021
Nuclear recetors (NRs) are key transcriptional regulators of genes involved in numerous biological responses including innate host defense against infection. Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway and contributes to the antimicrobial responses against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection. In recent years, increasing evidence has indicated potential roles for several NRs in the regulation of autophagy to promote host innate defense during Mtb infection. Here I discuss recent reports of targeting NRs for antibacterial autophagy against Mtb and their potential use in host-directed therapeutics against tuberculosis.
