Cosmic rays muons variations measurements with the muon telescope and the SEVAN detector at BEO - Moussala

2019
The Muon Telescope at Basic Environmental Observatory – Moussala consists of 8 water Cherenkov detectors and is in operation since August 2006. The detector area is 1m2 and the energy threshold for cosmic rays muons is estimated to 0.45 GeV. A detector, part of the Space Environment and Analysis Network (SEVAN) worldwide network is operation at the observatory as well, measuring the intensity of the secondary cosmic rays particles with three counting channels – low energy (elecrtron-photon component), neutral particles (mainly neutrons) and high energy (HE) particles (mainly muons). We have analyzed the data for the relative variations in the vertical cosmic rays muon flux from the muon telescope and the HE channel of the SEVAN detector for the period 2013-2017. The barometric coefficients, diurnal variation data, and simultaneously registered Forbush Decreases data are in good agreement for the two detectors.
