Desempenho de indivíduos jovens submetidos a diferentes modalidades do teste de caminhada de seis minutos Performance of young individuals subjected to different types of six-minute walk test
2014
Introduction: The walk test (6MWT) is a test of low cost, easy to administer and well accepted by patients. It is used to assess the ability of cardiovascular and pulmonary patients or even healthy individuals. The literature shows disagreement about the different types of protocols applied to its realization. Objective: To assess what type of modality 6MWT the males, healthy, sedentary and appropriate BMI youth perform better in terms of 6MWT in straight, elliptical or treadmill circuits. Methods: Thirty-eight male volunteers, healthy and sedentary youth with adequate BMI, performed the 6MWT in three ways: straight, elliptical and treadmill. The equations of Enright and Sherrill (1998) were used to predict the walking distance and correlate it with the distance obtained in each mode. Results: It was found that the groups were homogeneous in age, height and weight and there was no statistically significant difference between the distances walked in each mode 6MWT (p> 0.05). The change in heart rate and fatigue were similar between the circuits (p <0.05). The equations overestimate the distance to all forms of the test (p <0.05). There was no correlation between height and walking distance (p = 0.395 and r = -0.12), while the highest weight volunteers walked less (p = 0, r = -0.37 0234). Conclusion: The method of the 6MWT did not influence the distance walked in six minutes. Descriptores: Physical conditioning. Walking. Body mass index.
