Novel zinc-polymer complex with antioxidant activity for industrial lubricating oil

2021
Abstract The development of lubricants requires antioxidants, which enhance their efficiency by minimizing waste products derived from oxidation processes. The present study aimed to synthesize (Zn-Complex) Zinc (N-Salicylidene Poly Methyl Acrylic Acid Hydrazide). These obtained polymeric derivatives were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, BET and PSD. The antioxidant behavior was investigated by density, total amount of acid, viscosity and carbon residue. This investigation successfully managed to prepared new additive to the lubricant that does not contain Sulphur and Phosphorus with better lubricant antioxidant properties also has greater efficiency than traditional antioxidant (p-Cresol). This new synthetic antioxidant could be used by industrialists to replace the multipurpose lubricant additive, ZDDP and ZDDC which contain Sulphur and Phosphorus that produces and deposit ashes in the car exhaust pipe.
