Reconfigurable base opening for an engine room-air flow

A method for establishing a basic air flow opening in an engine compartment of a motor vehicle, which is designed for accommodating a drive train, the provision comprises a casing for the engine compartment. The panel includes a first grille opening and a second grille opening that are designed so that they respectively engage a first portion and a second portion of a flow of ambient air into the engine compartment. A closure assembly with selectable positions is arranged in the second grille opening and adapted to control a size of the second grille opening. The basic air flow opening in the engine compartment is the sum of the size of the first grille opening and the minimum size of the second grille opening. The method also comprises that a design of the drive train is determined and the minimum size of the second grille opening is adjusted according to the particular design of the drive train to set the basic air flow opening. Furthermore, a system is disclosed, wherein the method is used.
