Study on Gadolinium and LaFe11.5Si1.5 compound as refrigerant for magnetic refrigerator application

2018
This project will explain and develop an understanding about magnetic refrigeration which uses solid materials as the refrigerant. These solid materials demonstrated the end product known as magneto caloric effect, which resulted in the increasing and decreasing of temperature when magnetized or demagnetized of the magnetic field. Inside these materials, a major change occurred at the entropy which can be manipulated by the application or removal of the magnetic field. Thus, magnetic refrigeration is based on a fundamental thermodynamic property of the magnetic materials. Additionally, to study the effectiveness of La0.7Pr0.3Fe11.6Si1.4 by comparing to commercial Gadolinium have been implemented. The study finds that the high temperature annealing is more beneficial compared to the low temperature annealing in terms to produce high quality of structure in order to improve magnetic refrigerator performance.
