MECHANICAL, FATIGUE AND CORROSION PROPERTIES OF PROPELLER BRONZES

1975
This paper presents the results of tests on cast manganese bronze, manganese-nickel-aluminum bronze, and nickel- aluminum bronze which are extensively used in marine propellers. The mechanical, fatigue, and corrosion properties of the alloys in various size castings were studied. The strength, ductility, and toughness were measured, and the fatigue and corrosion-fatigue behavior of the alloys and weldments were determined. General corrosion, crevice corrosion, corrosion-erosion, cavitation-erosion, impingement, and stress-corrosion test results in sea water are presented. The relation of laboratory test data to propeller performance is discussed.
