Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of OA in clinical practice and ranked as 11th cause of disability in the world apart from the high cost of treatment but also causes morbidity and mortality. Atherosclerosis that occurs in hypertension causes subchondral ischemia which triggers degradative changes in the cartilage structure and accelerates the progression of knee OA. Methods: The design of this study was a cross sectional observational analytic study with 47 sample of knee osteoarthritis patients at dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Data collection was done by using consecutive sampling method. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorof Smirnov test. Results: It was found 13 knee OA patients diagnosed with hypertension and 34 knee OA patients diagnosed with hypertension (72,3%). Based on Kellgren-Lawrence grade, there were 3 patients with grade 1, 13 patients with grade 2, 14 patients with grade 3 and 17 patients with grade 4. Grade 4 was the grade with the highest incidence rate (36.2%). There was no significant relationship between hypertension and degree of knee OA according to Kellgren-Lawrence (p = 0.132). Conclusion: The majority of knee osteoarthritis patients in this study had grade 4 and had a diagnosis of hypertension. There was no significant relationship between hypertension and the degree of knee OA according to Kellgren-Lawrence. Keywords: Hypertension, Knee osteoarthritis, Kellgren-Lawrence grading scale
