The electromagnetic wave absorbing properties of a single layer of ferrite-rubber composite on a simple-shaped conducting surface

1999
We have studied the electromagnetic wave absorption properties of a composite consisting of Y-type hexagonal ferrite of the type Ba 2 Zn 2 Fe 12 O 22 in a rubber matrix. The electromagnetic properties of this composite were measured in terms of (complex-valued) dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability in a frequency range of: 0.04 - 18 GHz. A thin singlelayer of the ferrite-rubber composite was applied on a metallic cylinder, and the backscattering radar cross-section of the coated cylinder was measured. The experimental results were compared with predictions of exact scattering theory for a coated cylinder, using the measured values of permittivity and permeability of the ferrite composite. The radar cross-section results for the coated cylinder was then compared with the computed reflectivity of a coated planar metal plate.
