Acupuncture on Cerebral Compensation during Rehabilitation of Patients with Cerebral Palsy

Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture on cerebral compensation during rehabilitation of patients with cerebral palsy.Methods A hundred subjects with cerebral palsy were randomized into a treatment group(50 cases) and a control group(50 cases).The treatment group was given acupuncture treatment plus rehabilitation training,and the control group only received rehabilitation training.The therapeutic effects were evaluated,as well as the improvement of lesions by head CT scan and brain SPECT.Result The total effective rate was 84.0%in the treatment group versus 52.0%in the control group,and the difference was significant(P0.01).Compared to the control group,the developmental quotient(DQ),recovery rates based on head CT and brain SPECT were superior in the treatment group(P0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture improves the compensation of cerebral function,and is effective in managing cerebral palsy.
