Statuses of growth and development and their influence factors:an analysis of toddlers aged 1-3 years old in poverty-stricken counties of Shijiazhuang city

Objective To investigate the status of growth and develoment of the poor rural toddlers in Shijiazhuang city.Methods One hundred and forty poor rural toddlers aged 13-36 months old were randomly selected from Shijiazhuang by a cluster sampling method.The weight and height of the subjects were measured,and a questionnaire survey on diet was conducted in their mothers.All data were analyzed with χ2 test,t test and logistic regression model by SPSS 15.0.Results The incidence rate of low weight was 3.6%.A proportion of 7.1% of the participants had growth retardation.Con-clusion Both the incidence rates of low weight and growth retardation were lower in 1-3 years old poor rural toddlers from Shijiazhuang than in those from poverty-stricken areas of the western region and in the rural children less than 5 years old from Hebei province in 2002.
