Bone Maturation in Turkish Newborns

There is evidence in the medical literature pointing to differences in size, body shape and maturation at birth between different populations (Kelly and Reynolds, 1947; Adams and Niswander, 1973; Johnston and Beller, 1976; Eveleth, 1978; Garn and Bailey, 1978). Skeletal maturity at birth is mainly gene dependent, although a delay in maturation has been reported in intrauterine growth retardation by a number of authors (Kuhns and Finnstrom, 1976; Roords, 1978).
