Numerical Validation of the CLIC/SwissFEL/FERMI Multi Purpose X Band Structure

CurrentlyanX-bandtravelingwaveacceleratorstructureis fabricated in a collabora tion between CERN, PSI andSincrotrone Trieste (ST). PSI and ST will use it in theirFEL projects, CERN will test break down limits and ratesfor high gradients. A special feature of this structure istwo integrated wake Þ eld monitors monitoring the beamto structure alignment. The d esign used the classical ap-proach to model individual components and to assume theoverall behavior to be the simple superposition of the re-sults. This technique is known to produce valid structuredesigns. To get a full view of the structure’s properties,wefollowed that by a numerical electromagnetic simulationvalidation of the full structure to see effects such as inter-nal re s ections inside the structure or higher order disper-sive terms. Using SLAC’s high-performance electromag-netic code suite ACE3P, Þ rst results were obtained for thefundamentalmode and the lower transverse modes.
