α1,4-GALACTOSE TRANSFERASE AND DNA ENCODING THE SAME

2000
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an α1,4-galactose transferase transferring a galactose residue to C4 position of a galactose residue in a lactosylceramide or galactosylceramide, and to provide a DNA encoding the enzyme. SOLUTION: This transferase comprises (A) polypeptide having an amino acid sequence shown by amino acids 46 to 353 of sequence 2 in the specification, or (B) polypeptide that is modified by substituting, deleting, inserting or transposing one amino acid or more in, from, into or in amino acid sequence A, and has an enzymatic activity of transferring a galactose residue from a galactose donor to the receptor C4 position of a galactose residue of lactosylceramide or galactosylceramide. The other objective DNA encoding the above polypeptide is provided.
