Can knee kinematics predict the future

2019
We have shown that knee osteoarthritis (KOA) changes six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) 'kneeling' knee kinematics, and now propose that conversely, kneeling kinematics can be used to predict KOA severity. Presently, no predictive methods are available for KOA, especially for early stage KOA [1]. Clinically, early stage KOA prediction could provide the opportunity to use nonsurgical management strategies which have been shown to reduce pain, improve knee function and quality of life [2]. Thus, we aimed to develop a predictive model that determines KOA severity using the kinematics of kneeling.
