Analysis on injury conditions and risk factors of elder people in Haidian District

2013
OBJECTIVE To study the epidemiological characterization and factors of injuries in elder people and provide scientific evidence for the prevention measures to injuries. METHODS 1 086 elder people (≥60) were selected by multi-phases cluster random sampling and epidemiological investigation and studies were conducted by method of questionnaire. Factors caused injuries were analyzed by multinomial Logistic regression. RESULTS Annually incidence rate of injuries was 15.6%. The male to female ratio was 1︰2.9. The incidence rate in winter and spring was higher. And injuries often took place during the daytime, especially in the morning (56.2%). The first three injuries (78.1% of the total injuries) were fall, wrench and traffic accident in turn. Multinomial Logistic regression analysis showed that female, younger, hypertension and nape waist pain were the risk factors (OR﹥1, P﹤0.05) of injuries. CONCLUSION Many factors all together lead to the incidence of injuries in elder people. Injuries threaten the health of the elder people, so a series of intervention measures to the risk factors should be taken to prevent and control this disease.
