Investigation and analysis of nurses’ job satisfaction in ICU and general wards

Objective: To determine the nurses’job satisfaction in ICU and general wards in secondary level hospitals, so as to find outthe deficiency in nursing management and explore the improvement measures to inspire the nurses’ working enthusiasm to serve thepatients better. Method: 84 nurses working in general wards (n=42) and ICU (n=42) were investigated using the questionnaires. Results: ①There was significant difference between the two groups in the nurses working hours per day, rewards for the working on weekends,professional opportunity of promotion, control of working environment (P0.05). ②The score of total satisfaction of the 84 nurses wasless than 3.03, which manifested in the five aspects, that were the family and work balance, control and responsibility, welfare and rewards,scheduling, and professional development. Conclusion: The nursing administrators should staffing nurses and arrange shifts rationally,set up the rules of rewards, attach importance to the development of nursing specialty to improve the whole quality of nurses, strengthenthe power of propaganda to make the hospital managers to pay attention to nursing, and improve nurse’welfare and rewards by the meansof fair and rational encouragement.
