Prática sexual de idosos de um centro de convivência: um recorte exploratório

Introduction: Successful population aging runs through social, cultural, spiritual, civic and health issues. Sexuality for the elderly with information, pleasure and in a safe way should be provided with public policies. Objectives: to describe sexual practice and sexuality in a group of elderly people and to identify the aspects that permeate safe sex from their perspective. Method: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional, exploratory study with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 29 elderly people of both sexes who attended a community center located of the city of Sâo Paulo. The research was approved by the Ethics Committee by the number 45637915.5.0000.5494. Results and discussion: Of the participants, 83% were female, 34% reported being widowed and divorced respectively. As for sexual practice, 55% of respondents have an active sex life, 34% have sex two or more times a week and 44% feel very satisfied. Most believe they have detailed information about STIs, using only condoms as a reference, but 38% of respondents use it and 55% have already obtained information from health professionals. Conclusion: It was concluded that the researched population that sexuality and sex is an increasingly present fact in old age. Health actions must be triggered by health professionals since the life expectancy of this population segment has increased as well as the way of living sexuality.
