2009
ackground and Objectives: Ultrasonogaphy (USG) has been reported to be a uick, relatively inexpensive, non invasive, ensitive and accessible diagnostic tool for dentifying the location and extent of head nd neck lesions. USG indicates the healng pattern by giving an exact picture of he vascular flow postoperatively. Enlarged ymph nodes can be assessed whether enign or metastatic. The objective of this tudy was to access maxillofacial lesions sing USG and colour Doppler. ethods: The preoperative evaluation ncluded complete history with physical xamination of the patients along with relvant radiograph. Assessment was done sing a Logic-400 GE medical corporaion machine in 7 cases and ALOKA for cases with linear and convex probe. 11 ases were assessed till date. esults: The following lesions were btained: a) face and neck abscesses, soft issue vascular anomalies: 6 cases were ssessed; b) diagnosis of periapical lesions nd prior evaluation of bone healing: 0 ases accessed till now; c) USG evaluation f bone lesions of the jaw: 4 cases were ssessed till now; and d) enlarged lymph odes: 1 case was assessed. onclusion: Accuracy is more than 90%. limitation of USG thus far, however, is ts inability to penetrate the interstices of one.
