Crohn’s disease (CD) incidence around the world has increased rapidly, particularly in children. Up to 25% of new CD cases are diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. Despite optimized medical treatment still one-third of these patients will develop complicated disease and require surgery within five years of their initial diagnosis.
