Fatores associados à obesidade em adultos quilombolas baianos

2020
Introduction: The obesity has a strong relation with social characteristics, lifestyle elements and physiological changes. This infirmity has been identified as one of the biggest public health problems in the world due to its association with non-communicable chronic diseases. Information about the subject aimed at black populations is restricted, especially mainly related to quilombolas. Objective: Analyze the prevalence of obesity and associated factors in Bahian quilombola adults. Materials and methods: This is a population-based survey with a sample of 850 quilombolas adults of both sexes. The Obesity was determined by the bioimpedance balance. Poisson regression was used to test associations, considering crude and adjusted analysis. Results: The prevalence of obesity was 63.0% (95% Confidence Interval: 59.7: 66.3). In the multiple analysis, sex and marital status remained associated (p<0.05). Discussion: Despite the lack of references on the subject in the population, it is possible to indicate that the prevalence of obesity in quilombolas is higher than in other populations. The association with sex and marital status corroborates the literature. Conclusion: Being female and being married / widowed significantly increase the likelihood of obesity.
