Cuestionario sobre actitudes hacia las matemáticas en futuros maestros de Educación Primaria || Questionnaire on attitudes towards mathematics in future teachers of Primary Education

2014
Nowadays it is commonly accepted that Mathematics is a subject whose teaching-learning process is closely related to emotional issues, up to the point of creating feelings of fear, insecurity, anxiety and low self-concept that can transfer and transmit from Education Faculties to primary school classrooms. The aim of this paper is the development and validation of a questionnaire to assess attitudes towards mathematics in Primary Education Teacher Students. The questionnaire is made up of 19 items with five Likert-type response. The sample involved 307 students of the four courses of the Primary Education Degree of the Faculty of Education of the University of A Coruna. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire are established applying statistical techniques and using the statistical package SPSS Statistics v. 21.0. A Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .92 is obtained and a factor analysis is carried out, obtaining 3 factors: Student’s perception of their math teacher (with nine items), Liking for mathematics (with six items), and Student’s perception of their mathematical ability (four items). The results allow to establish that the questionnaire has a sufficient internal consistence to be used in the evaluation of the attitudes of future teachers about mathematics, the class and the professor.
