Spinal Surgery in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease

2021
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. Recent advances in the treatment of PD have improved the life expectancy and quality of life of patients. Spinal surgery improves deformities of the spine in these patients. Moreover, a lot of studies have shown that operative treatment of various diseases of the spine in PD patients is associated with a large percentage of post-operative complications, that make a surgery revision necessary. The purpose of the present review article is to assess the number and type of complications of spine surgery in PD patients and determine whether the presence of PD predisposes patients to a higher rate of such complications
