Preparation of polypyrrole microtubules by selective deposition on peptide-decorated microtubular templates

2009
Abstract In this study, polypyrrole microtubules were prepared by the assistance of a designer peptide. Polypyrrole clusters were deposited on the peptide-decorated tubular templates through the chemical oxidation. The tubular templates were prepared by the self-assembly of bolaamphiphile molecules following immobilization of designer peptides that have specific affinity to the polypyrrole. Due to the specific affinity of the immobilized peptide, polypyrrole clusters were selectively deposited on the peptide-immobilized template forming polypyrrole microtubules. The prepared polypyrrole microtubules showed blue shifted photoluminescence spectrum of polypyrrole clusters due to the interaction with peptide. These findings suggest that the designer peptide with its specific affinity can be applied for the selective deposition of polymeric materials and the controls on photoluminescence property.
