Clinical observation on semiconductor laser and acupuncture for treatment of sciatica

Objective :To compare the effect of laser and acupuncture for sciatica.Methods: Sixty patients with sciatica were randomly divided into a semiconductor laser and acupuncture group and a routine acupuncture group,30 cases in each group.The Numerical Pain Rating Scales(VAS) the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Scores(JOA) were observed before and after treatment.Results:The results indicates that the former group has an efficiency rate of 100% compared with 80 % of the latter.The improvement of the VAS and JOA scores in the former group was greater than those in the latter group(both P 0.05).Conclusion:The semiconductor laser has rapid and obvious therapeutic effect on sciatica.
