Infantile Choroid Plexus Papilloma

Papilloma of the choroid plexus which causes hydrocephalus is an unusual but more common in childhood and curable by surgical treatment. While the results of the treatment for this tumor in early infants have not been satisfactory. Treatment of the hydrocephalus which is complicated with papilloma is very important for the post operative prognosis. This report describes the histogenesis, the diagnosis and the treatment of this tumor on the basis of authors experiences through three cases which were successfully treated with surgery. Case 1, a 10-month-old boy, had an enlarged skull at birth and was brought to our clinic because of frequent vomiting since 6 months old. Case 2, an 8-month-old girl, was referred to our clinic because of retarded growth and recurrent vomiting since 2 months old. Case 3, a 6-month-old boy, developed a large head at 2 months old and had fallen into shock state at 3 months old. Case 1 and 2 have grown normally after removal of the tumor and ventriculoperitoneal shunt. On the other hand case 3 has shown a psychomotor retardation because of poorly controlled hydrocephalus.
