Pill day in Cangkring.

1975
Pill-distribution day in a village in East Java is described. The chiefs wife took charge of the monthly distribution of oral contraceptives and condoms encouraged the women to discuss side effects and enrolled women in the Mothers Club. The meeting was very relaxed but in the beginning acceptors had insisted on strict anonymity. A small charge was made for the pills part kept to pay expenses and part put into a lottery fund for those there that morning. Women who did not attend were followed up by the nurse-midwife.
