2019
Abstract Malnutrition and malaria are two diseases that constitute heavy burden for developing countries. Our study aimed to describe malnutrition factors associated with malaria, and to assess the effectiveness of the intensive nutritional recovery unit (URENI) in the management of these diseases in the health district of Dioila. We conducted a cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of children aged 0-59 months. Anthropometric measurements and malaria rapid diagnostic test (RDT) were performed. A questionnaire was administered to mothers and providers. Illiteracy, young, and the number of children per woman were risk factors contributing to malnutrition associated with malaria in children. Of the 1346 cases of malnutrition, 59.36% were hospitalized and 40.64% were treated as outpatients. Lethality before 24 hours ranged from 0.08% - 0.18% in the first quarter to in the 2nd quarter. Malnutrition was associated with several factors in the Dioila health district. The effectiveness of the measures taken made it possible to limit the number of deaths. The unit's efforts should be supported by the promotion of family planning and maternal literacy. Key words: malnutrition, malaria, children under five, factors, Mali.
