Implementation of evidence-based interventions: Barriers and opportunities

2016
Significant advances have been made in the development and evaluation of empirically supported interventions for mental disorders. However, there remains a gap between research and practice settings, with only a minority of people seeking treatment for mental disorders receiving gold-standard care. Interventions with strong support in research trials may take decades to become commonplace in clinical settings, if at all. This has prompted an increased emphasis on research to understand the factors that facilitate and interfere with the dissemination and implementation of empirically supported treatments, as well as innovations to reduce implementation barriers.
