Misleading Dermoscopic Findings in an Epidermal Cyst

: A 73 year old, otherwise healthy female was referred for a dermatological opinion in view of a rapidly growing, indurated plaque on her left mid-shin. The patient recalled initially developing an erythematous papule at the site which - over the span of 4 months - evolved into the three by two centimeter, skin-coloured, indurated plaque with which she presented. On clinical examination, the surface of the plaque appeared peppered with superficial pits as well as discrete, hyperkeratotic plugs. A bluish hue was identified at places.
