The first clinical application of shock wave technology for the eradication of urinary stones radically altered the urological management of stone disease forever. Since patients prefer not to stay overnight in hospital, lithotripsy has moved to the outpatient setting; furthermore, the management is safe, cost-effective, efficacious and desirable in the majority of cases.
