Cryosurgery in the treatment of patients with papillomatous hyperplasia of the palate

2015
A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 40 patients with removable dentures, treated in the Estomatological Department of the Specialties polyclinic from "Saturnino Lora Torres" Teaching Provincial Clinical Surgical Hospital from Santiago de Cuba was carried out from March, 2013 to the same period of 2015, in order to evaluate the results of cryosurgery in the treatment of patients affected with papillomatous hyperplasia of the palate. Due to its great coolant power, liquid nitrogen was used in the treatment of this disease. The anesthetic, antimicrobian, antiinfeccious, healing and immunologic properties of this cryosurgical modality guaranteed the fast cure of the injured oral tissues which were repaired and reepithelized between the 7 and 14 days after applying the technique. The evaluation of the cryotherapy was achieved by MEDISAN 2015; 19(10):2088 measuring the freezing and unfreezing time (20-30 and 91-120 seconds, respectively), which was beneficial for being innocuous, simple, atraumatic and effective in the treatment of this disorder.
