Hyoid position in Class II adult patients with various vertical facial patterns

2009
Objective To investigate the characteristics and different hyoid position in Class Ⅱ adult patients with various vertical facial patterns. Methods Cephalograms of 135 Class Ⅱ adult patients with various vertical facial patterns were collected.Sixty cases were males and 75 cases were females.Hyoid positions were measured and analyzed. The Correlation between hyoid position and mandibular plane angle were investigated. Results The measurements of AH-CVP and AH-C3 in males were larger than that in females in all vertical facial pattern groups.Almost in all vertical facial pattern groups, the measurements of vertical position of hyoid in males were significantly larger than that in females.AH-Or was positively related to the mandibular plane angle. Conclusion There were differences in hyoid position among various vertical facial pattern groups. The hyoids in males were positioned more anterior-inferiorly than that in females. There were some correlations between the hyoid position and the mandibular plane angle.
