Simulated analysis of Ti-6Al-4V processed through equal channel angular pressing for biomedical applications

2021
Abstract An essential prerequisite for any material to classify as biomaterial is biocompatibility with the human body which could be utilized for wound healing or body repair on a living organism. Due to their exceptional properties comprising of biocompatibility and environmental nature, they offer a broad variety of medical applications which could aid in technological developments. The commonly employed biomaterial is Titanium due to its high biocompatibility and inertness to the chemical environment present in the human body. The Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) process enables improvement in metal features which enhance their scope of use. ECAP is found to be the most efficient method of grain refinement which leads to enhancement of the characteristics of the metals. In this paper, ANSYS is used to analyze the effects of ECAP in refining the grain size of the Ti-6A-4V alloy which is used as a biomaterial for different medical applications, and the impact of ECAP on Ti-6Al-4V are studied.
