Behavioral consequences of child abuse

Violence against children has serious implications for the development of the child and family health throughout the life cycle and could be detected in a family-medicine practice. Although we do not recommend universal screening, family physicians should be aware of the various presentations and sequelae of child abuse, so that appropriate interventions can be initiated.
