Diagnosis and management of gastric polyps: Study of fifteen cases with review of the literature
1984
FIFTEEN patients with gastric polyps were studied. In only 7 cases could symptoms be directly attributed to polyps. Endoscopic polypectomy was performed in 5 patients without complications. Three patients with polyp diameter 3.5 cm or greater required surgical polypectomy. Biopsy specimens were not representative of excised polyps in 4 of 8 cases. At least some adenomatous polyps have malignant potential but hypoplastic polyps are benign. Examination of the excised polyp is required for accurate histological typing and detection of polypoid carcinoma.
