A Comparative Study of Ultrasound Diagnosis of Adrenal Cortex Carcinoma and Its Pathologic Structure

1999
Objective: To study the feature of ultrasound imaging and the correlation with pathologic structure of adrenal cortex carcinoma. Methods: The retrospective study was done in 14 patients with adrenal cortex carcinoma diagnosed by two dimensional and color doppler sonography and confirmed by pathology. Results: The results of ultrasound analysis indicated that the group of equal echo was account for 43%(6/14),the group of high echo 29%(4/14), the group of low echo 14%(2/14),and the group of mixed echo 14%(2/14) and the rate of coincidence of qualification was 57%(8/14).Conclusion:1.The features of ultrasound imaging in adrenal cortex carcinoma were.1) The big tumor was mainly with equal echo, more than 7.6cm in diameter in present study; 2) The tumor was of varying shape, commonly with irregular and multi-lobe shape; 3) Detection of blood flow of color doppler sonography showed that the tumor and its surrounding region had a plenty of blood flow supply;and 4) the liquid necrosis inside the tumor was seen frequently. 2.The correlation study demonstrated that the different echo in tumor was correlated with size, arrangement of tumor cells and the contents of vascular and fibril tissues and necrosis.
