Bovine Trypanosomiasis: a brief review

Current bovine trypanosomiasis is a globally occurring disease with a long distribution and economic importance, most in Africa, its continent of origin. In Brazil, the most pathogenic etiologic agent this disease is Trypanosoma vivax . The clinical symptoms developed by bovine are essential nonspecific including anemia, fever, lethargy, progressive loss of weight, neurological, instance in sight among others. The diagnosis can be performed by parasitological, serological and molecular methods that show variations in the sensitivity and specificity of the tests. The economic impacts caused by bovine trypanosomiasis are related to a decrease in production, infertility, abortion, growth retardation and mortality, and therefore the diagnosis is really importance in order to establish methods of control and prophylaxis.
