PURPOSE OF THE COURSE This interdisciplinary and interactive course has been designed to provide a comprehensive survey of the current knowledge regarding the complex issues pertaining to the various aspects of cardiovascular syndromes requiring urgent and emergent treatment. The course will address the most recent diagnostic and therapeutic advances in various fields, with special emphasis on the role of surgery. Upon completion of the course, the participants will have had the opportunity to gain a thorough knowledge of a wide range of topics, from acute ventricular failure to aortic dissections, from massive pulmonary embolism to the mechanical complications of myocardial infarction, from valve dysfunction and dehiscence to traumatic aortic rupture etc. and will be equipped with the necessary information to apply the current concepts for diagnosis, patient selection and optimization of therapeutic strategies. Surgical options and techniques will be highlighted and discussed in depth.
