The inhibition behavior of a water-soluble silane for reinforcing steel in 3.5% NaCl saturated Ca(OH)2 solution

2018
Abstract The inhibition performance of a water-soluble silane on reinforcing steel in saturated Ca(OH) 2 solution contaminated by Cl − was investigated and compared with commonly organic inhibitor N,N-dimethylethanolamine (DMEA) using electrochemical techniques and surface analysis measurements. The results indicate that the lower concentration of APTS has better inhibition efficiency than DMEA, the largest inhibition efficiency are 70.1% and 97.4% for DMEA and APTS after 72 h immersion. DMEA promotes the interfacial layer by formation of CaCO 3 deposited on steel surface, while APTS changes the character of steel surface by adsorption and effectively inhibits the pitting corrosion.
