Role 4 and Reconstruction

2011
The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine is made up of three organizations, the Defence Medical Services (DMS), University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHBFT) and Birmingham University. It has three pillars: clinical, training, and research. UHBFT provides the Role 4 clinical care to all military trauma patients requiring inpatient treatment following aeromedical evacuation, the only exception being ophthalmic trauma which is managed in conjunction with the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. Clinical care is provided by a multidisciplinary approach which is consultant based and overseen by the authors who are all very active in the totality of care provision to military patients.
