Ernährungsberatung und diätetische Maßnahmen bei chronischer Urtikaria

2006
Chronic urticaria is a frequent dermatological disease. Food allergy or intolerance are often suspected as the cause of urticaria symptoms. IgE-mediated food allergies are normally not relevant but pseudoallergic reactions to food additives and possibly biogenic amines may be crucial. Therefore, lots of patients presenting in an outpatient clinic kept diets that were worthless and that could lead to nutritional defiency in the long run. A structured schedule in the diagnostic procedure might be helpful and necessary in respecting the relationship to foods. This article especially focuses on additives in nutrition, clinical relevance of elimination diets and the importance of that dietary measure. Hereby, the procedure of dietary diagnostics and advice by the specialist in trophology is presented in detail on the base of national and international position papers and our own experiences of investigations, collected from our specialized outpatient clinic for chronic urticaria at the unit of allergy and environment, department of dermatology at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. Besides, the results demonstrate that a close cooperation between allergologists and a specialist in trophology is constructive to rule out or confirm food allergy, respectively, intolerance and to avoid keeping unnecessary diets.
